HE MADE CHANGES IN BLESSING HIS CHILDREN

Jacob was the man surnamed Israel by God. The name Jacob meant a sup-planter. He was a sup-planter or a crook. He had dealt with Esau his senior brother. On the first occasion he took away his brother’s birth right with a portage. The second time he stole his brother Esau’s blessing. Again he combined with his mother Rebeca to take away this blessing from Isaac their father. It was possible because Isaac was very old and well stricken in age. He was seeing again, but he discerned his voice as Jacob’s and the hand was Esau’s. Then Jacob himself was also supplanted by his own uncle just as he supplanted his brother Esau. But God made the difference in his life at the end.

HOW DID HE BLESS HIS CHILDREN?
On a particular day in Egypt, he called all his children including Joseph who was already sold there. He prophesied upon each person on what such a person would see or be in the future. He said “gather yourselves together that I may tell you what shall befall you in the latter days or in the last days” Gen. 49:1-2. And all of his children gathered themselves together and came to him. He was about to die as God revealed to him. Therefore he prophesied upon each of his children on what they stood to see come to manifest in their lives in the future. And whatever he said on that day was upheld by God. He started with his first born who was Reuben. Hear him.

“Reuben, thou art my first born, my might and the beginning of my strength. The Excellency of dignity, and the Excellency of power. Unstable as water, thou shall not excel, because thou went up to thy father’s bed and then defiled thou it. He went up to my couch.

Now to Simeon the second son and Levi the third son: He said “Simeon and Levi are brethren, instrument of cruelty are in their habitations. Oh my soul, come not thou into their secrets. Unto their assembly, mine honour, be not thou united, for in their anger they slew a man, and in their self will, they digged down a wall. Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce and their wrath, for it was cruel. I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel”.
Then he came to his fourth son Judah, hear him. “Judah, thou art he whom thy brothers shall praise. Thy hands shall be in the necks of thy enemies. Thy father’s children shall bow down before thee. Judah is a Lion’s whelp. From the prey my son, thou art gone up. He stooped down, he couched as a Lion. Who shall rouse him up? The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor a law giver from between his feet, until Shilo come. And unto him shall the gathering of his people be. Binding his foal unto s vine and unto his ass’s colt unto a choice vine, and his clothes in the blood of grapes. His eyes shall be red with wine and his teeth white with milk”.

Then to his fifth son Zebulon. “Zebulon shall dwell at the haven of the sea, and he shall be for an haven of ships. And his border shall be unto Zidon”
The next was Issachar his son. “Issachar is a strong Ass, as couching down between two burdens. And he saw that rest was good, and the land that it was pleasant, and bowed his shoulders to bear, and became a servant unto tribute”.

Then coming to his son Dan he said “Dan shall judge his people, as one of the tribes of Israel. Dan shall be a serpent by the way. An adder in the path that bites the horse heals, so that his rider shall fall backward. I have waited for thy salvation Oh Lord”.
Coming to his son Gad he said “Gad, a troop shall overcome him, but he shall overcome at last”.

To his son Asher he said “Out of Asher, his bread shall be fat and he shall yield royal Dainties”.
To the tribe known as Naphtali he said “Naphtali is hind let loose, he gives goodly words”.
To the tribe of Joseph he said “Joseph is fruitful bough, even a fruitful bough by a well, whose branches run over a wall. The archers have sorely grieved him, and shot at him, and hated him. But his bow abode in strength. And the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the Mighty God of Jacob (from thence is the shepherd, the stone of Israel) Even by the God of thy father, who shall help thee. And by the Almighty who shall bless thee with blessings above, blessings of the deep that lies under, blessings of the Breast and of the womb. The blessings of thy father had prevailed above the blessings of thy progenitors unto the utmost bound of the everlasting hills. They shall be on the head of Joseph and on the head of the crown of him that was separated from his brethren.

To Benjamin he said “Benjamin shall ravin as a Wolf. In the morning he shall devour the prey, at night he shall divide the spoil. All these are then twelve tribes of Israel, and this is it that their spoke unto them; and blessed them, everyone according to his blessing he blessed them. He charged them and said unto them, “I’m to be gathered unto my people, bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite. In the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, which is before Mamre, in the land of Canaan which Abraham bought with the field of Ephron the Hittite for a possession of a burying place. There they buried Abraham, and Sarah his wife.

There they buried Isaac and Rebecca his wife. And there I also buried Leah. The purchase of the field and the cave that is therein was from the children of Heth. And when Jacob had made an end of commanding his sons, he gathered up his feet into the bed and yielded up his ghost, and he was gathered unto his people. These were the words of Jacob on his children and we are going to talk on how the changes were made.

HOW WAS THE CHANGES MADE?
If you had taken note from the beginning, you will realize what he said to Reuben his first born. He said to Reuben “thou art my first born, the beginning of might, the Excellency of strength, and the Excellency of Dignity. Thou shall not excel. Thou went to thy father’s bed and defiled it. He went up to my couch”. This in effect was curse. So he cursed Reuben his first born, why? Reuben had sexual relationship with his father’s wife Bilhah. This happened after the death of Rachael because Bilhah was made to Rachael. In this blessing therefore Reuben was cursed by his father Jacob.

Whenever a father or mother says to one of his or her sons or daughters saying, you shall not excel, such person shall suffer terribly in life. This was the case of Reuben from that time his father pronounced that curse upon him. Reuben was the father of the tribe called “the tribe of Reuben” or “the Reubenites”. So in that blessing he was cursed. His father did not bless him and his tribe. But we tried to investigate into that relationship between him and his father’s wife Bilhah, and we suggested that Bilhah might have initiated that affair between them. Reason:

Wherever and whenever an older woman or an older man had sexual affair with a younger person of the opposite sex, the older person initiated it, how? The older person had been in the game and he or she knows how well to track and trap the younger person. The older man or woman knows what to do in other to arouse the younger person to an affair. It could be through giving of gifts or through offering one help or the other. Bilhah was older to Reuben. We also suggested that by the time of that incident, Jacob might have become old enough that he was no longer able to satisfy Bilhah sexually, and so she decided to track his husband’s first born who was full of strength to get that satisfaction to herself. If it was not true, she would have cried out if Reuben had forced her to it. But the bible did not make mention of that. So she was the initiator of that relationship between them.

The Bible also said that Jacob learnt about it and kept quiet, waiting for this day of blessing, then he pronounced it upon him. Jacob did not leave Bilhah in that curse. He cursed her through her son Dan. Bilhah was the mother of Dan, the father of the tribe called “the tribe of Dan” or “the Danites”. Jacob cursed Dan who personally did not offend Jacob directly. He cursed him in other to deal with his mother for her action. This was true as we believe that he made investigation into the matter. And so to punish her he cursed her son. This was therefore a matter of “transferred aggression”. His mother’s fault was transferred to him.
Now Reuben as the first born was not blessed and shifted aside. This curse trailed his tribe till Moses realized it in the wilderness before his death, he restored Reuben again by saying “Let Reuben live, let his people not be few” Deut. 33:6. From this time the tribe of Reuben began to prosper numerically, and otherwise.

Wherever and whenever such thing happens, it would only take “a spiritual father” to restore that fellow back. Reuben might have waved that curse with the wave of the hand at first. And like today’s youths he might say “though you are my father but are you God”? Else he would have begged his father earlier to have that curse suspended. But he was not aware of this understanding. So the curse became effective on him and his tribe and generation. So the first born was shifted aside and was not blessed.

THE SECOND AND THIRD SONS WERE SIMOEN AND LEVI:
Jacob came to his second son and joined him with the third son Levi and said, “Simeon and Levi are brothers, instrument of cruelty are in their habitations. O my soul, come not into their secret, unto their assembly. My honour be not united, for in their anger they slew a man and in their self will they digged down a wall. Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce and their and their wrath for it was cruel. I will divide in Jacob and scatter them in Israel”.
Yes Simeon was senior to Levi. They joined themselves together and slew a man called Sechem for defiling their sister Dinah sexually Gen 34. The girl had left her domain and went out to see the people of the land and sachem found her and had her immediately. But he decided to marry her because his soul cleaved upon her afterwards. Simeon and Levi pretended to agree with him. They told them that the only condition in which that marriage could be possible was that they should be circumcised as themselves. Then could begin to inter marry themselves and the people of the land agreed. But Simeon and Levi just deceived them with circumcision, only to slaughter the community after about four days of circumcision. Just when they could not defend themselves, they were killed.

This was why Jacob described them as with “instruments of cruelty are in their habitations”. That they acted in their “self will” and “they digged down a wall or grave”. Therefore he requested not his soul to be united with them, even within their secrets. This request was upheld by God, and it was the reason of Moses death because he was a son of Levi, from his lineage. So in this this blessing they were also not blessed by Jacob. They were also shifted by the side and he went to his number four child Judah. When he came to Judah who was his number child and he had no impediment, he blessed him and placed him above all his brethren. It was reason the Bible said “And Judah prevailed above his brethren” I Chron. 5:2. When he came to his fourth son Judah, he had nothing to question about then he was blessed. He poured on him the blessing of the first born.
Now what do you think?
Today Juday is now the number one because Jesus had taken his title with him. God bless
